Launched in 2020 by an international team, Akoni is the first brand to introduce ceramic nosepads to the market. Akoni's use of Japanese titanium for the build of each frame makes its eyewear lightweight and hypoallergenic. The Japanese acetate used in Akoni eywewear is made from renewable wood and cotton. This acetate is resistant to shrinkage and warping, making it an ideal long-term investment.

Reflecting the brand's dedication to time-honored techniques and craftsmanship, Akoni is lucky to work with some of Japan's finest artisans to create every frame. â€‹

Akoni eyewear uses time-honored techniques and craftsmanship of the different Arts & Crafts of Japan: the Japanese Joinery Glass Technique, Knife making Shodo. Akoni is constantly taking inspiration from the history and innovation of Japan pushing forward eyewear.

What makes Akoni unique?

  • Innovative Designs: Blending Swiss precision with Japanese artistry, Akoni offers frames that are as visually striking as they are functional. Each frame is thoughtfully designed, featuring bold lines and elegant details that cater to both contemporary and classic tastes.  â€‹â€‹

  • Akoni Acetate: Akoni’s commitment to environmentally friendly materials underlies its use of cellulose acetate (zyl) from Japan. Unlike plastic—a petroleum-based product— zyl is made from renewable wood and cotton-based materials. Akoni’s Japanese zyl is universally regarded as the world’s finest because of its unmatched density, strength, beauty, luster, and ability to maintain its shape/resist shrinkage over time. Even after years of use, Akoni’s zyl frames can be re-polished to look and feel like new.

  • Akoni Titanium: â€‹â€‹In the1980’s Japan pioneered the technology necessary to craft titanium into super-strong, featherweight frames. Hypoallergenic, similar in weight to aluminum but twice as strong, and stronger than steel at about half its weight—titanium is the ideal material for crafting high-end eyewear. The world’s finest is still available exclusively in Japan. Designed for a lifetime of use, Akoni’s titanium frames are virtually indestructible.
